# 『翻訳英和辞典』補完計画 1 - absent

ということで、『誤訳をしないための翻訳英和辞典』補完計画を始めます。

このabsentは前置詞で，「～がないので，～がないかぎり」の意味。（中略）
比較的よく使われる用法だが、中型の英和辞書には記載のないことが多い。

「中型の英和辞書には～」と書かれているとおり、三大英和（新英和大、RHD2、G大）にはいずれも載っているし、R2、R3にも載っています。

では、中型、学習英和辞典を見てみましょう。

手元にある代表的な辞書には、だいたい載っていました。英和中が「しばしば非正用法」と書いているのは、新英和大と同じです。

ちょっと苦労しそうなのは、「～ないので」という確定条件なのか、「～なければ」という仮定条件になるのかが文脈しだいだろうということでしょう。

『誤訳をしないための翻訳英和辞典』のp.12で、河野先生はランダムハウスに載っている例文の訳をおかしいと指摘なさっていますが、その判断もちょっと難しいのかもしれません。
